What’s in a Name?
I am always asked how I came up with Blue Orchid-my response, God. God guided me to it completely! You see when I first started thinking about starting my business, I started thinking of what it would be called. I would ask God to guide me to a name because I had no idea of how to even start in creating such a thing. I knew I wanted something that would represent an empowered woman. A woman who not only would be unstoppable but also kind, smart, and loving.
I prayed and prayed and did some more praying about what this name could be. I remember it was a Sunday, I was half asleep and awake and Blue Tulip came to mind. It was such a weird sensation that I spent all day thinking about it and asking Walter (the boyfriend) about what he thought of the name. I started researching what the meaning of Blue and Tulip could mean. Within my research I came about a jewelry business named that way, so I decided it couldn’t be called that way, since I originally thought of starting off as a jewelry business- I will explain this more in another blog. I really liked Blue because it symbolizes loyalty, strength, wisdom, and trust. Everything I wanted this woman to represent.
I also concluded it would be nice to have a flower name-just like the tulip-so I started looking at different flowers and what they symbolize. When I came across the orchid- love, beauty, thoughtfulness, charm, strength-I knew it would be the best representation (I also really love these flowers). As I repeated and repeated it, I liked it more and more, but I felt I needed a sign from God to let me know this was the name. One evening I was talking to Yanely about it, and while I was telling her- I asked God to give me a sign if Blue Orchid was it.
The next day I was working on some things and my brother came to hang out. As he was telling me about his day he goes, “Elena something weird happened to me during lunch”- I just continued working on my computer as he continued his story. He said, “As I was eating my lunch I looked across the room and I saw a field of blue flowers”- At that moment he had my full attention. He continued, “It was so weird, I rubbed my eyes to see if I was seeing correctly, but it looked as real as I am seeing you now. There were so many of these flowers everywhere and they were all blue”- I asked him what type of flower it was, but he didn’t know, so he started making the shape of the flower with his hand. I had goosebumps as he was making the shape of the flower because I knew in my heart what it was. I googled a blue orchid and asked him if that was the flower he saw-His response, “YES, that’s it! The field was covered with those flowers in blue” I couldn’t believe it! I explained to him, I was thinking of naming my store Blue Orchid, and I had asked God to give me a sign.
So, for this reason I say God named my store. I get goosebumps every time I tell the story because I still can’t believe how God provided me the sign. My hope for Blue Orchid is for all women to see themselves represented. I would love for you all to see that you are what makes a Blue Orchid. Just you- being who you are is enough. You don’t need to be anyone else because God made you uniquely YOU!
Love,
Elena
